Parish Pastoral Council

Purpose and Function

(taken from St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Pastoral Council Constitution, Art. I, Sec. 1-2)

The Parish Pastoral Council shall be the instrument through which a representative body of the people of God, that is St. Joseph Parish, in a relationship of shared responsibility with the Pastor, enables the parish to experience itself as a community of faith called to proclaim the Good News of God’s Kingdom present among us.

Faith Formation Commission

Mission Statement

The Faith Formation Commission, within the Catholic parish of Saint Joseph, is committed to enabling the entire community to grow spiritually through religious education.

Role

(adapted from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ Catholic School and Faith Formation Commission Guide, 1998, p. 6)

The Faith Formation Commission serves as a consultative body for the DRE on matters of faith formation.  With this perspective in mind, it works in four different areas:  planning, monitoring, policy-making, and communicating.  The different programs that it helps to oversee include:  the Religious Education Program(REP), Sacramental preparation for children and youth, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), and other Adult Faith Formation opportunities.

  School Commission

The governing board of our Catholic School is our parish School Commission.  The Commission is expected to be involved in the development of goals and yearly objectives.  The Commission establishes policy (e.g., uniform policy, admission eligibility requirements, etc.).

The Commission is also responsible for the establishment of educational goals, the monitoring of the performance of the principal, the approval of the educational budget, and the insurance that state and local agencies, and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis receive the policies approved by them.  Because the School is supported by direct payment of tuition and parish subsidy, the Commission is charged with establishing tuition/fees and seeking subsidy support from the Parish at large.

The function of this committee is to keep the parish facilities maintained.  The committee oversees the maintenance of the rectory, church, and school.  When a maintenance job arises, we either do the task, contact a parishioner who has expertise in that field, or subcontract out the job.  This is open to all parishioners.
